I am the Ocean

I am the ocean:

Reflective as a mirror;

The image you cast is the image you see,
But beneath the surface a separate truth is knit:
Currents ridges and trenches;
I ebb and flow
I come and go
Just as I please.

Step carefully.
There are rocks and shells
Sharp as razors.
There are reef more complex
Than the most intricate labyrinth…


I am shallow as the highest ridges
But take a step forward
And you will slip into the darkest trenches.
The deepest trenches,
That your bones will be crushed
By the lethal pressure
Of the depth:

Truths and realities,
Past and present,
Of secrets and regrets

                     …No regrets.

I am the ocean:

Rip tides and tsunamis;
Come to close
And you’ll be dragged in
And drowned.
